Founded in 1918, Les Baddock Book Binders is regarded as one of the pioneers of the book binding industry in Australia. Les Baddock began his book binding service in Pitt Street, Sydney almost 90 years ago and today Baddocks is a thriving modern company.

This longevity and success is, in part, due to the combination of respect for traditional methods and the efficiency required in today’s world. Our fully qualified tradesmen still use the same techniques passed down through the ages while providing a professional and reliable service.

Binding and print finishing methods may have changed but quality and performance remains similar to the standards set by Les Baddock in the early 1900s.

In March 2009 Baddocks acquired LJ Cullen Bookbinders, the 2 companies are now operating from the same premises in Lewisham and together continue to provide Bookbinding services to the Trade and General Public

An interesting phenomenon in the world of bookbinding is the affinity of the Church to the book binder but this is no coincidence. It was the Church that first encouraged and subsidised the medieval art of book binding in order to protect the laboriously produced scripts of the monks and scholars.

And now centuries later, we take the same care with your books, specialising in the fine art of binding, the restoration of rare books and the manufacture of slipcases and boxes for the further protection of those extra valuable books.

Expert tradesmen have given the company a reputation for first class quality work and from time to time we have been commissioned by government departments to bind special presentation book for VIPs visiting Australia.

Most of our binding operations are still carried out by hand and as such Baddocks can be classified as a ‘hand bindery”. However, our expertise varies from hand bound books to modern “in line” binding equipment which enables us to offer a unique service to our many clients in all areas of the book binding industry.
